About

TRACK to TRAILS is a fitness blog with a focus on a running and hiking. However, it's really much more than that. The main goal is really to encourage others to simply lead a more active lifestyle by leading by example and sharing what I'm doing as I work to get back into better shape. Activities could include running, trail running, hiking, cycling, or any other type of activity or workout that you can think of!
I currently live in Portland, OR which is in one of the most scenic regions of the country. The Pacific Northwest provides a nearly endless amount of naturally beautiful landscapes from lakes, rivers, waterfalls, mountains, and the coast. In close proximity to Portland is the Columbia River Gorge. So, you can be sure there will be plenty of posts coming from there!

As for my background, I wasn't very serious about running until college when I started to pick it up a little just to get into better cardio shape for other activities I enjoyed. Post-college, I got a little more serious and ended up running a full marathon which was somehow pretty fun! Unfortunately, running the race resulted in an ankle overuse injury and, combined with the feeling of accomplishment of finishing a marathon, I then got a little complacent. Fast forward several years and a few minor injuries later, I'm not happy with being so far behind where I was just five years ago. I'm ready to get back into the all-around good shape that I experienced before the marathon!
The great thing about exercise (aside from the fact that it can be super fun!) is that it really only requires a small investment in time and effort to see health benefits. If you've got some time, this is a documentary produced by the BBC that attempts to show what just THREE MINUTES OF EXERCISE PER WEEK can get you!
The Truth About Exercise from Chef Central on Vimeo. If you're ready to make, at the very least, a very small change in your life that can provide huge health benefits, join me! Much more important than what strategy or activity you choose is the mere fact that you get up and do something! Anything! So, get out there!
